The hallmark of the KDM Trio’s repertoire is the original compositions crafted by pianist Katarina Kochetova. In his newly formed quartet, Lorenz Widauer skillfully combines his diverse stylistic roots in a fascinating manner – merging the past and present, tradition with progressiveness. In his compositions, he blends Viennese avant-garde with a strong classical tradition from his Salzburg homeland and the sound of the young, trendy New York jazz scene. Inspirations such as the expressive power of Ambrose Akinmusire, the audacity of Immanuel Wilkins, or the compositional finesse of Giveton Gelin are recognizable, leading to a distinctive and innovative band sound when combined with the aforementioned Austrian influences and the originality of the outstanding band members. The compositions subtly integrate classical harmony into contemporary jazz vocabulary, resulting in a rich and accessible sonic landscape that is broken and expanded through interactive and virtuosic free improvisations. Despite their individuality, the four musicians create a cohesive sonic image through their similar listening habits and sonic visions, supporting, propelling, and evolving the compositions.

In their project “The Answer is no” Maja Osojnik and Ursula Winterauer use the same sound sources – voice, electric bass and sampler. This conscious choice creates a live situation that creates an exciting mirroring on a visual and sonic level. Their goal is to explore, expand and deconstruct the sonic possibilities of their instruments, entering into an intense dialogue in the process. In their joint project, the musicians and composers Maja Osojnik and Ursula Winterauer move skilfully in the border area between analog and digital sounds and between virtual and real spaces.

Velvet, the aptly named upcoming debut album of the newly founded duo of cellist Asja Valcic and bassist Raphael Preuschl sets out to lure its listeners into a world of low rich sounds. It presents a string of compositions for cello and bass ukulele in which both musicians explore the warm earthy tones of their instruments in an interplay of improvisations and beautifully woven melodies and grooves. At times soft and intimate, at times passionate and virtuosic, they master the right balance between form and expression. The duo’s appeal goes beyond the curiosity shop character of their instrument set- up; it is the result of two mature musicians at a point in their careers where the musical message is at the forefront and core of their artistry, and an absolute delightful one at that! Ich hab letzten Sommer während einem Road-Trip durch Australien 50 Nummern geschrieben und diese dann in Wien fertig produziert, Features darüber singen/rappen lassen und gemischt. Davon haben mir die 9 Tracks besonders gefallen. Das Album handelt vom Kontrast Australien/Österreich und einem verzerrten Heimatgefühl. Imagine running into The Clonious, that dude equipped with hundred headphones which directly interact with his musical epicentre. He elegantly puts together the apparent inconsiderable and the clearly essential elements, subsequently he breaks music into rhythm + harmonies to reach a point at which it is incontrovertible to discuss the perception that jazz is the mother of it all. A soulsearcher and vinyl aficionado who wouldn’t mind to know how to smash a breakdance in a jam packed club, usually he ticks out without being asked anyhow though. Over the years The Clonious proved his qualities as a versatile DJ from Vienna to Cape Town. As a remixer as well – you can find various trademark reworks for the likes of Alice Russell, longtime companion Dorian Concept or Krts on his carte de visite.

Kasho Chualan is a Kurdish-Canadian pianist, composer and sound artist currently based in Vienna. She is breaking borders of music with an experimental, dreamlike, narrative and textural approach. She manipulates the social constructs of how an instrument should be played portrayed or perceived, particularly with the piano and preparations. Her compositions and performances are consisted of raw sounds, intuitive experimental improvisation, acoustic/keyboard/percussion instruments, tape and whatever other intriguing toy she happens to stumble upon.

They have developed a deep passion for the complex musicof the renaissance and the middle ages during their studies in Vienna. “Vivid” represents their vibrant, energetic, fiery spirit in their character and performance. Using both their instrumental skills as well as their voices, they have immediately captured the attention of audiences across Austria.Since the foundation of VIVID Consort in 2016, they have been performing regularly, exploring repertoire from the middle ages up to the 21st century.
